Process Engineer-Manufacturing - We are seeking an experienced Process Engineer to help advance our Continuous Improvement and Productivity initiatives. The successful candidate should be prepared to help provide world-class products and service to a diverse customer base, including many leading medical device manufacturers.

General Summary:

The Process Engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting materials, processes and tooling-related production issues to improve and optimize the extrusion process. The individual will be responsible for creating, developing and carrying out process improvements.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Production Managers to resolve ongoing production issues
  • Assist in transition of new process developments
  • Assist in transition of new equipment installation including training of production and maintenance personnel. Perform Equipment Installation qualification (IQ) and process validation that includes operational qualification (OQ) and performance qualification (PQ)
  • Lead process optimization and continuous process improvement activities
  • Establish and maintain best practice operating procedures
  • Work with Maintenance to ensure safe, continuous operation of extrusion equipment
  • Work with design engineering staff to improve equipment performance and reliability
  • Participate in daily meetings to communicate production needs, issues, and priorities
  • Provide production technical support in areas of responsibility
  • Reduce cost of existing processes to optimize yield/efficiency performance
  • Assist Production Management with development, review, and update of best practices
  • Lead/participate in root cause investigation of customer complaints, and quality audit findings
  • Lead/participate in implementation of preventive actions to prevent customer complaints

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Prior experience in polymer extrusion preferred. Plastics experience (Injection / Extrusion) / Extrusion experience (Rubber, etc) / Medical device process is preferred
  • 4 yr. Engineering Degree, preferably Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing Systems or Lean Certification preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in process documentation/work instruction desired
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, able to handle multiple projects
  • Project management skills
  • Continuous improvement, Kaizen, SPC, and TPM experience
  • Team environment and independent working experience
  • Black belt / six sigma preferred
  • Hands-on-style
  • Successful Completion of a Mechanical Aptitude test
