General Summary:

Extrusion Technician Level A will be responsible for technically maintaining production in a defined area of the facility. This would include troubleshooting and correction of process failures, overseeing extruder assembly, maintaining tooling, overseeing extruder startup, ensuring best practice sheets are being recorded properly, directing other personnel in the area on immediate technical needs, and running of special research projects.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Level A extrusion technicians should be technically competent in running multiple materials, process configurations, and different sizes/types of extruders. To be considered for Extrusion Technician Level A, a candidate would be required to meet the following minimum list of requirements. Meeting all of the requirements below does not ensure promotion to the position described. A number of other factors such as work ethic, attendance, and communication skills, and availability of position will be evaluated.

  • Proper extruder cleaning (Single Screw, All types)
  • Proper extruder assembly (Single Screw, All types)
  • Proper screw inspection
  • Proper breaker plate inspection
  • Proper adaptor flange assembly
  • Proper extruder head assembly, parts dimensional inspection
    • Genca LB1030 medical tubing head
    • Zeus Straight Head
    • Genca KC2030 medical tubing head
  • Die/Mandrel Inspection and installation
  • Setup calculations / selection
  • Proficiency running 5 of the following but be prepared to speak on them all: FEP, PFA, PEEK, Kynar (PVDF), Nylon, Pebax , THV, ETFE, LCP, Zytel resins including selection of heat profile and proper tooling. Resins may be added, subtracted, or substituted at any time. Drying parameters and moisture analysis as required.
  • Proficiency running free extruded through air, free extruded through water, vacuum sizing, and coating operations including full setup, sizing, and proper cooling process.
  • Ability to diagnose heaters with multi-meter and replace heater bands
  • Process documentation and notes properly completed and organized daily.
  • Process specific
    • Monofilaments, low tension winding, bobbin winding
    • Multi-lumen tubing proper setup, documentation, and processing
    • Wire coating, proper setup, bond, and non-bond process.
    • Thin wall vacuum sized extrusion
  • Passing competency on all Extrusion of Polymers Chapters
  • Minimum of one (1) year hands on experience in operation of melt tubing extruders.

NOTE: This list may have additions or subtractions made at any time. Zeus reserves the right to add, remove, or substitute requirements at any time based on business conditions, changing technology, or other business needs. Additions and subtractions are directly communicated to the Technician seeking competency completion.

Must meet the Technician proficiency within 18 months from start date. If training is incomplete within 18 months then the employee may be disqualified from proceeding in the Technician program and will return to manufacturing shop-rate pay.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Minimum of one (1) year hands on experience in operation of Melt tubing extruders.

  • Reading - Score needs to be a 4 or greater
  • Locating Information - Score needs to be a 4 or great

Wiesen score of 40 or better from Entry Level
