General Summary:

The Fixed Asset & Project Accounting Manager will be responsible for the proper recording of all fixed asset transactions within the Company's fixed asset software and capital projects. The Company is capital-intensive. It is vertically integrated in that it manufacturers most of its own tooling and machinery; therefore, there always numerous capital projects in process. The Fixed Asset & Project Accounting Manager will be responsible for the proper accumulation of costs for capital projects, including employee time spent and allocating interest expense, and also tracking completion. The manager will ensure the records are in accordance with GAAP and the Company's capitalization policy and will maintain a separate set of records for tax. The Manager will be responsible for the records to tie to the G/L. The Manager will manage the staff including a Fixed Asset Accountant and a Project Accountant.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Determine the life and asset classification for all property transactions.
  • Ensure fixed assets are properly capitalized and classified in accordance with Company policy, GAAP, and tax regulations.
  • Monitor capital projects from start to finish and ensure proper cost accumulation / valuation and timely completion; ensure depreciation begins when assets are placed in service.
  • Ensure all Company procedures are being followed including, but not limited to, proper approvals, employee time tracking, completion of proper paperwork for transfers and disposals.
  • Create and execute a plan to do periodic fixed asset physical inventories to verify existence of the Company's fixed assets; participate in the inventories when necessary; investigate discrepancies and ensure the records are updated to reflect results.
  • Ensure that the records in the fixed asset software reconciles with the G/L each month end.
  • Responsible for the preparation of all capital project reports for CIP (construction in process) and capital purchases for each facility.
  • Responsible for the annual capital budget and related depreciation expense; this requires working closely with Corporate Engineering, Plant Managers, and other departmental leaders; present/review annual capital budget at annual meeting with Executives.
  • Responsible for the reforecasting of the capital plan and related depreciation expense when requested.
  • Responsible for the calculation and application of capitalized interest in accordance with GAAP/tax for open and completed capital projects.
  • Provide supporting details for annual state property tax filings and returns.
  • Assist external auditors during the year-end audit process.
  • Create and/or maintain corporate policies regarding fixed assets.
  • Assist with special projects, analyses and other inquiries as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • BS in Accounting or related business curriculum.
  • Experience with BNA fixed asset software or other stand-alone asset software programs preferred.
  • Previous experience with project accounting methodologies and "self-constructed" asset construction cost compilations.
  • Desire and ability to lead and develop the staff.
  • Computer literate, including familiarity with a nationally known ERP system and the Microsoft Office suite of software.
