General Summary:
The Associate Scientist performs standard and advanced test methods to meet method and customer requirements while maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Setup, maintenance, calibration and operation of standard analytical equipment to meet method, quality and customer requirements.
- Records observations, data and results incompliance with method and quality program requirements.
- Prepares tests to meet method and quality program requirements.
- Analyzes data on standard analytical techniques
- Prepares reports for customers
- Develops methods and standard operating procedures
- Provides training on standard analytical techniques
- Provides assistance to technicians on data analysis on standard techniques
- Complies with safety and chemical hygiene programs
- Other job related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- BS in Chemistry or Engineering
- 2 5 years instrumentation and analysis experience
- S. or Ph.D. in chemistry or engineering 0- 2 year experience
- Ability to read, understand and apply standard and advanced laboratory techniques, test methods and procedures.
- Hands on experience with several of the following standard laboratory procedures including, but not limited to DSC, TGA, FT-IR, MFR, Instron, SEM, GPC, following ASTM, ISO.
- Solid foundation in working with chemicals, safe handling practices and storage.
- Strong communication skills both written and oral.
- Strong mathematical background including and statistical analysis.
- Strong computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, data entry.
- Must function well within a team oriented organizational environment.
- Detail and results oriented.
- Ability to maintain flexibility for changing priorities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work environment may include areas of unpleasant extremes of cold and heat and potential exposure to fumes, airborne particulates, and/or hazardous chemicals requiring adherence to safety considerations
- Full spectrum vision to identify and distinguish color with ability for sharp focus in near and far vision
- Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects and fine instruments with fingers
- Handling, seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with the hand or hands
- Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
- Occasional lifting, carrying objects weighing 15 lb or less
- Occasional pushing, pulling objects weighing 50 lb or less
- Ability to move about
