General Summary:

The successful candidate for this position will serve as a technical resource in support of Research projects in all product areas. The candidate must be independent and highly motivated with an educational background in, and experience in the processing and characterization of materials, especially polymers. The successful candidate may work under the guidance of more experienced engineers or scientists.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of new products and processes related to the medical and industrial business sectors.
  • Assist in the design and execution of Research projects.
  • Assist in product testing, data analysis, and in preparing summary reports and presentations as required.
  • Conduct directed statistical analysis of properties and processes.
  • Provide technical assistance to Research Engineers and Scientists.
  • Build an ever-increasing knowledge of polymeric materials and material processing.
  • Assure compliance with current good manufacturing and laboratory practices (cGMP, GLP).
  • Assure compliance with quality system and other regulatory standards throughout all phases of research and development projects.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, or closely related discipline.
  • Zero to 2 years of experience in a research environment.
  • Exposure to polymeric and other materials, and to associated testing procedures.
  • Hands-on exposure to polymer processing techniques.
  • Exposure to research methodology, statistical analysis of data and design of experiments.
  • A proven ability to apply scientific methodology in the analysis of problems, in developing hypotheses, and in proposing and implementing solutions.
  • Strong math skills and ability to perform calculations as needed.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office.
  • Must be very detail-oriented and appreciate the value of accuracy.
  • Ability to deal effectively with time pressures, stress, and changing job demands in a dynamic corporate environment.
  • Must function well within a team-oriented organization.
  • Must possess outstanding organizational and documentation skills.

  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to convey technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Must be able to handle proprietary business information in a confidential manner.
  • Knowledge of basic Environmental Health and Safety regulations and best practices.
